The term “paranormal” is commonly used to describe events that seemingly cannot be explained by science, reason or logic. Instead, there is no accepted explanation for such events at all. Paranormal phenomena like ghosts, hauntings, UFOs and extra-sensory perception are often dismissed as tricks of the mind or the beliefs of the gullible. However, that has not stopped some people looking for rational explanations to seemingly paranormal happenings! Although there are paranormal events occurring every single day, there are some events that initially appear to be paranormal but actually have a rational explanation behind them. Some examples are well known whilst others are not easily recognizable explanations. The quick list below will give you an idea of what they are and why they appear to be paranormal. - Humidity – Humidity is all around us at varying levels every moment of the day and has an impact on how all sorts of elements of a house behave. This is why it is one of the most common explanations for paranormal events. For example, if a door opens or shuts on its own then the likelihood is that the door has expanded because of the humidity. Similarly, if you hear footsteps then the humidity may also be causing your floorboards to expand and contract, and thus move.
- The Age Of A Building – If your house or workplace is old then creaking, wailing and cold spots are common. This might not be down to paranormal activity but rather because of the settling of foundations, poor insulation and cracks or holes by the windowpane.
- Poor Plumbing – Can you hear knocking in the wall or under the floorboards in a particular room? If you can then checking your pipes because old plumbing or faulty pipes can cause the knocking. This is one of the most common explanations for apparently “paranormal” activity. Another is of course taps turning themselves on. If your water pressure is set at too high a level then they may well begin to drip and flow.
- Electrical Wiring – EMF is another of the common causes of paranormal events but can normally be attributed to electrical wiring and the currents in your home. High electromagnetic fields can make you feel like there is something strange in the room with you, or even as if you are being watched. Of course, you may well have something in the room with you but the first thing you should check to rule out the paranormal if possible is the wiring.
- The Quality Of Air – The quality of the air in certain rooms can be a big factor in making you think that you have a paranormal event on your hands when there could be numerous explanations for then. For example, you may have damp and mold behind a wall can make you feel sick, light-headed and even faint. There is nothing paranormal about mold. Similarly, if you have carbon monoxide or radon links in a room then you may feel sick too. You could actually have any number of reactions, both physical ones and mental ones (feeling that you are being watched, general anxiety and so on). Either way, check the quality of the air in your home first.
If you believe that there is paranormal activity in your home then look at all of the above and rule them out one by one if you can. Looking for the rational first will enable you to double check your home and determine whether or not you do have paranormal activity. Either way, you will definitely find out the truth. |
